Acne and Acne Scars
Nowadays almost every skin care brand offers a three step or multiple product system in order to treat various skin needs and problems. We have often believed that in order to see results all our skin care products must fall under one brand name in order to completely treat the skin.
Well what’s really the truth?
Should you use different products that match your skin care needs regardless of brand or is sticking with one skin care line the best way to ensure quality and skin receptiveness? Let’s check out the pros and cons below:
If you already have one skin care product you love, chances are you’ll probably love another product that brand offers. Brands that pride themselves on having sensitive skin care lines and natural-based skin care products can also encourage brand loyalty, as users want to ensure their skin does not have allergic reactions to new ingredients.
For those new to skin care, it can be easier to follow and adopt a skin care system that is already created by industry dermatologists and chemists. Many skin care lines’ goal is to remove the headache and confusion that comes with choosing products for your skin type.
Every Brand Can’t Have Every Product
While brands try to create multiple products for every possible skin issue or texture, it is impossible for a brand to have a solution for 100% of the market.
Lack of Individuality
Products that work for one person’s skin logically cannot work for every person on Earth’s skin. It may take mixing and matching skin care brands to find the perfect combination for your individual skin.
So what products do you choose?
Now, we’re not saying you have to run out and try every skin care brand or mix every last tube, jar, or vial in your medicine cabinet. Know what issues you’re wishing to treat along with your skin type to find products that are specifically meeting your skin care goals. Focus on the ingredients and reputation/reviews of the product from other users with similar skin problems.
Also, try to add new products into your routine slowly. Some products take a week or two for your skin to start showing results. Packing on tons of different products at once can make skin irritated. And since your assorted branded products don’t give you an order for mixing and matching, always follow the rule of layering products from lighter to thicker, i.e. a serum should go on the skin before a heavy cream. Your skin cannot tell the difference between brands. Until a company is able to make a miracle all-in-one solution for every possible skin type and texture, we may be resorting to mixing and matching for some time to come!
Having a good skin care routine, such as washing daily and moisturizing consistently, is important all year round. But it is also crucial to feed your skin. How you look on the outside is highly reflective of what you put on the inside. Consuming the right foods and drinks will give you that youthful, fresh skin that you are seeking.
Although there is not much research as to whether or not the consumption of water improves the skin, there are clear benefits to staying hydrated. According Women’s Health Magazine, Rachel Nazarian, M.D., states that “water makes a big difference in skin health. Without adequate water intake, skin appears duller, and wrinkles and pores more prominent.” Hydration leaves the skin supple. Make sure to drink plenty of water after drinking caffeine, which further dehydrates the body. If you would rather not sip on water consistently, you can even hydrate yourself with fruits and vegetables that are packed with water.
Fruits and vegetables not only hydrate the skin, but contain nutrients that benefit the skin by keeping it youthful and radiant. Vitamin A is a nutrient that not only protects the health of your eyes, but the health of your skin, as well. According to Elle Magazine, it “regulates cell turnover in much the same way that a topical retinol-A does, albeit gentler.” Vitamin A is found in papaya, tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, collard greens, and much more. Some fruits and vegetables also contain a nutrient called anthocyanins, which controls the formation of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. This is found in blueberries and red cabbages.
There are many more of benefits of fruits and vegetables for your overall health and appearance. It is important to take care of your skin from the inside as well as on the outside. Make it a goal to incorporate at least one fruit or vegetable with a meal daily. Your habits today will shape how you will look and feel in the future!

Hydroquinone has received a poor reputation over the years. Most of the misinformation about this ingredient stems from misuse and a lack of education. People have continued to put the ingredient in a bad light by simply basing opinions on the worst cases of misuse of hydroquinone. Others simply don’t understand what this ingredient does. When trying a new product that has active ingredients in it, it is important to understand what those ingredients treat. Clear Essence’s Platinum and Anti-Aging lines contain small and appropriate concentrations of hydroquinone and we want all of our customers to feel safe and to know what this ingredient does for the skin.
Hydroquinone is one of the few FDA approved skin-lightening ingredients. It can be a great treatment to even one’s skin tone by fading discolored skin such as freckles, age spots, sunspots, and other discolorations created by hormone changes, acne, or injury to the skin. Chemically speaking, hydroquinone decreases the formation of melanin. Melanin is the pigment in the skin that gives it its color. Melanin is also a natural UV protectant. Hydroquinone is found in stores in concentrations of 0.5% to 2%. The FDA has regulated that no more than 2% concentration can be purchased over the counter. A doctor must prescribe any product that contains a concentration higher than 2%. A concentration of 12% prevents the production of melanin altogether. When hydroquinone is properly formulated it is not a harmful ingredient and there is no substantial research proving otherwise.
Some may say that hydroquinone causes cancer yet, “hydroquinone happens to be a potent antioxidant and there is even research that shows that workers who handle pure hydroquinone actually have lower incidences of cancer than the population as a whole (Paulaschoice.com).” The only cases in which a patient did develop cancer or an issue of darker colored skin are those who did not use sunscreen in conjunction with the ingredient. Since melanin is our natural UV protectant it is important to realize that one’s skin may become sensitive to the sun after displacing the dark spot or discoloration. Although it is always critical to use sunscreen to prevent damage to the skin, it is even more important when using a product to lighten discolorations.
Research has indicated problematic skin reactions are rare and more often than not, minor. The most startling risk is a skin disorder called ochronosis, which is a bluish tint of the skin. This is caused by long time use of a high concentration of hydroquinone. Again, not using sunscreen will cause the area to re-darken and can sometimes make the area even darker due to the inhibition of our natural UV protection, melanin.
The correct way to use hydroquinone is by following the instructions on the drug facts label or package. Also, before using it is recommended to do a “test patch” by applying a small amount to a small area of healthy skin (such as inner wrist) to make sure an allergic reaction does not occur.
Clear Essence skin care products that contain hydroquinone always adhere to the FDA regulation of 2% concentration. Some of Clear Essence’s skin lightening products also contain SPF 15 so that an extra layer of sunscreen does not have to be applied! As you can see it is important to know the ingredients you put on your skin and how to properly use the skin care products in your daily regimen. Although it is trendy to say a product is all natural, science can sometimes give us the most effective results to ensure our skin is always flawless! The key is remembering proper use of these ingredients in healthy concentrations!!

Is this what I think it is? Is this a wrinkle? Some of us may have said this while looking into the mirror in the morning when we are putting on our make-up. Getting older comes with some great rewards such as being able to drive, drink alcohol, renting a car, and have credibility to start your own career; but it also comes with some bad as well, such as paying bills, bags underneath your eyes, your skin becoming dull, and wrinkles appearing. Well, no matter what we will always have to pay bills, yet there are ways to clear up those bags underneath your eyes, freshen your skin, and even get rid of your wrinkles. There are also different routines you can do to prevent all of these unwanted imperfections. Some of them don’t even require money being spent, just change to your daily schedule.
One of the biggest things that we tend to forget to do when we get older is sleep. Ok sometimes we don’t forget, we just don’t have enough time to get the recommended 8 hours of sleep each night. Yet,
not only does our mind and body need it, so does our skin. During the day our skin becomes a protection shield against nasty germs that want to get into our bodies. The skin is constantly protecting our other cells that make up the body. While we are sleeping our skin is repairing itself, just like a warrior would do in between battles. The way the skin repairs itself is by sending new skin cells to replace the old and damaged ones. If we don’t get the sleep that we need our skin will become tired and over worked which is why we get those dark under eye circles , dull looking skin and wrinkles. Also, lack of sleep can lead to stress. Stress can cause your skin to have many different problems – acne, and wrinkles or “worry lines”. So stop stressing and start sleeping – your body, mind, and skin will appreciate it.
Like I have mentioned in the Let’s Rejuvenate Your Skin article, the sun can also affect your skin and can cause it to age faster than you expected. Our skin has a love hate relationship with the sun. It loves it because it needs it for Vitamin D. It hates it because it can damage the skin cells due to UV damage. The top layer of your skin is doing its best to protect itself, but it comes down to how much melanin you have in your skin. Melanin protects the skin from UV rays, and the more exposure your skin gets, it will cause your skin to produce more melanin (UV protection) and that is what makes you tan. However, if you don’t have a lot of melanin the UV rays will fight pass the top layer and will burn your skin. As UV rays enter the skin cell it harbors small amounts of cancer. Peeling of the skin is your cells committing suicide and shedding off from your body to prevent these traces of cancer from harming any more cells in your body. The constant death of your skin cells is what causes your skin to become wrinkled as the epidermis becomes thinner and loses elasticity. So to avoid this wear sunscreen or sunblock when you know you are going to be in the sun for a long time!!
If you smoke this too may be the reason why your skin is becoming wrinkled. Smoking contains toxins which cut off the oxygen and nutrient supply to your skin. It will also cause your skin to dry out, and create age spots. It is the worst possible thing you can do to your skin and health. Drinking water however, is one of the best things you can do. Drinking water helps get rid of the toxins in your body and will help your skin over time.
Changes in your daily schedule may be hard and that is completely understandable. A company that knows the struggles and is ready to help you by giving you the skin what you need is Clear Essence. Clear Essence’s Anti-Aging Skin Care Line is an age defying line made with Alpha Hydroxy Acid. The Alpha Hydroxy assists in shedding of dead skin cells and improves collagen formation, which will help make your skin look younger and eliminate wrinkles. The products in this line are all below $10, which is great if you are on a budget but still looking for effective products and great results! Clear Essence wants the real you to shine through. If you have any question please visit clearessence.com/. And remember the difference is clear.

No matter which way you approach it, learning a language is not easy. You can take classes, buy programs, and try learning from friends, but who really has time to learn a language? So if you can’t find a way to learn a language like Spanish, then how are you supposed to find a way to learn the language of skincare and cosmetics? Octyl Methoxycinnamate, Oxybenzoen, and Benzophenoe are all words which are more complex than most languages, but Clear Essence Cosmetics is here to help you learn the meaning behind some of the most popular skincare and cosmetics terms out there!
For those of you that want to lighten your skin without bleaching your skin or getting too light, Hydroquinone is the answer. Does the name, “Hydroquinone”, scare you? With thousands of articles online and in print attacking Hydroquinone for being detrimental to a person’s health, I wouldn’t be surprised if it scares you; but it shouldn’t, especially when formulated in Clear Essence Cosmetics. Hydroquinone is an active ingredient that reduces the production of melanin in the skin, thus causing the skin to become fairer. Yes, in 2006 the FDA banned the use of Hydroquinone, but that is simply because it wasn’t being used correctly by doctors and companies around the globe. But soon enough the FDA became aware that in a less concentrated state, Hydroquinone is far less dangerous and just as effective. So this is why today, Clear Essence Cosmetics is here to offer you our skincare lines with 2% Hydroquinone so you can quickly lighten your skin without worrying about any damaging effects to your body or overall health. Our customer’s safety is a top priority for Clear Essence Cosmetics; which is why we test every batch of our product to insure that it is safe and effective. If you have sensitive skin; though, get a dime-sized drop of our product and rub it on your skin and wait 24 hours to see if any irritations arise. If one does arise, Clear Essence Cosmetics will gladly replace your product with something that is safer for your skin! Feel free to contact us today and we can consult you into having the best skin of your life!

AHA is proven to be safe and does not take much more than some patience to get the results you are looking for. If this sounds enticing to you, then be sure to try Clear Essence Cosmetic’s Alpha Hydroxy Series. This is a skincare line specifically formulated with AHA in order to provide our customer with a cheap, safe, and effective way to combat dry, faded, and wrinkled skin. For many, Glycerin sounds like a chemical produced at an oil refinery, thus piggybacking a terrible connotation to an ingredient that is extremely safe and effective to use. In a basic definition, Glycerin is a light, organic, non-greasy fatty acid used as a lubricant and moisturizer, but why is it so effective? Glycerin is effective because of two characteristics: it’s highly hygroscopic and it’s a skin-identical ingredient. Being hygroscopic, Glycerin pulls water from the outside (humidity) and from the rest of your body. Pulling water from lower levels of skin up and from the outside air sounds like a good idea, but it ultimately leads to dry skin because if there’s no water below your layer of skin or outside, then you will be left dry, but that is not the case with Glycerin. Because Glycerin is a skin-identical ingredient, meaning it is found naturally in the skin, the body works very effectively with the ingredient and helps to prevent skin from drying-out or scaling. Glycerin is cheap, effective, and available in several of our lines, so go out and try the effects of Glycerin!

Ashy skin has been an issue for people; especially people of color, for generations. We’ve all seen and heard jokes about ashy skin on countless television shows, movies, and radio, but it is no laughing matter. Across the globe, there are people who are desperately looking for a solution to rid them of their severely ashy skin so they can finally put on a tank top or pair of shorts again without being scared to expose ashy ankles, elbows, etc. With a few tips and a few Clear Essence Cosmetics products, you will be well on your way to preventing and treating ashy skin today!
As you may suspect, ashy skin is a result of excessively dry skin. When your body naturally replaces your dead skin with new, healthier skin, that dead skin may refuse to strip away from your body, and accumulate on your skin to create an “ashy” appearance. With correct hydration, exfoliation, and moisturization; though, this accumulation of dead skin will not occur. Remember that water is your best friend and greatest ally when combating dry skin, so allow yourself to drink 8-9 glasses of water a day and to shower in shorter increments with cooler water. Proper exfoliation once or twice a week is also extremely crucial for removing the build-up of dead skin on your body. Also, don’t forget to moisturize your skin after showering and exfoliation, as well as all day long, in order to prevent and treat dry, ashy skin.
Moisturization is vital to preventing and treating ashy skin, but with a sea of products and treatments at your fingertips, which ones do you choose? This is where Clear Essence Cosmetics is here to help. It’s a pain to see so many consumers purchasing products that state they “hydrate” the skin, but contain ingredients like alcohol and SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) which excessively dry-out your skin. Look for products like Clear Essence, containing ingredients such as lactic acid, AHA (alpha hydroxy acid), and butters and oils that can guarantee hydrated by years of research and practice. So head on over to www.clearessence.com (or a store near you that carries Clear Essence Cosmetics) and put our tips to work to help you prevent and treat ashy skin today!
“Lemonade! Come get your Lemonade!” is what many of us yelled when we were younger and wanted to earn some money. I bet as a child you didn’t know that those lemons you used to make that lemonade are actually good for your health. Well they are, and they can help you in many other ways as well. They are very helpful for around the house and you can use them as a beauty component. No wonder why people used to give lemons as a gifts to kings.
Lemons have a tart taste to them, but they are very good for you. Since lemons contain Vitamin C, lemons help keeps your immune system stay strong, and lower your blood pressure. Lemons can also boost your metabolism, by helping you regulate your bowel movement. Lemons also carry Vitamin P which helps strengthen your blood vessels. Lemon has also been discovered to have 22 anti-cancer compounds. These include limonene that slows down the growth of cancer tumors and flavonol glycosides that can stop cell division in cancer cells.
After using that lemon juice in your water, you might as well use the rest to freshen up your house. You can use lemons as both an air freshener and a cleaner. You can clean up your sink by using it on the faucet, in the garbage disposal, or on any stains you may have on your sinks with them. You can clean your wooden cutting board by using salt and lemons. As well as your microwave, by using a microwave safe glass bowl, squeeze some lemon juice in water. The lemon water will boil and make those cooked on spots come right off with a towel.
With seeing how helpful lemons are so helpful, it’s no wonder that lemons can be a beauty component. If you ever want to lighten up your hair you can use lemon juice. With olive oil, raw honey, and lemons; you can make a conditioner that is great for dry and damaged hair. If your nails are weak, grab a bowl filled with lemon juice and soak them for 10 minutes, then place them in a mixture of water and vinegar. Lemons also help with removing excess oil from your skin, remove scars, lighten blemishes, and reduce acne.

To go through life without ever getting scars would be just short of a miracle, so instead of being unconfident because of the look of your scars, make a change in your life and use Clear Essence products today in order to treat and prevent scars. Scars happen to everyone: celebrities, politicians, me, and even you. Scars happen for several reasons-acne, wounds, abrasions, burns, etc.
One of the easiest ways to scar your skin is by popping a pimple. We’ve all been told by countless people in our lives to just leave the pimple alone, but when your skin becomes red and irritated at the beginning of a growth of a pimple, it feels almost impossible to not try to pop your pimple. So if the cause of us popping our pimples is redness and irritation, then how do we prevent those symptoms? The answer to your question is Clear Essence’s Platinum Series. Within the Platinum Series lies our Medicated Cleansing Bar which contains Sulfur, a natural, active ingredient that diminishes the pimple and it’s symptoms before you can even think about popping it. Sulfur also helps general problem skin issues; such as rashes. Coupling Sulfur with other active ingredients like Lavender Extract and natural oils, the Clear Essence’s Platinum Series works hard to prevent and treat acne and other skin problems that can cause, and have caused, scaring in the skin to insure you that you will earn back your beautiful, healthy skin that you had before!
If you previously didn’t know how to prevent yourself from popping pimples, then you’ve probably popped a fair share of pimples in your day; but how do you treat or prevent scarring now that you’ve actually popped your pimple? The answer is simple and always right in front of your eyes: exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! You can never be told enough to exfoliate, and hopefully you learn to accept this advice. Proper exfoliation will help to rejuvenate and renew your skin, causing your skin to turnover and replace your old, acne-scarred skin, with beautiful, healthy skin. Exfoliating with gentle ingredients such as Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, and Citric Acid speeds up the process or skin cell turnover process and treats and prevents deep skin depressions left over from damage of the skin. Luckily for you, almost all the products on Clear Essence’s website (www.clearessence.com) contain Lactic Acid, and several products also contain the Glycolic and Citric Acids mentioned above.
Also try Clear Essence’s Alpha Hydroxy Line which contains Alpha Hydorxy Acid (AHA); which works just like the acids mentioned above to treat and repair damaged and scarred skin. A popular product from this line is our Complexion Soap with AHA which is suited for all skin types to cleanse away dead skin cells that hold hyperpigmentation and help reveal naturally radiant skin.
After exfoliating its important to use a product containing a lightening ingredient such as hydroquinone, lemon extract or licorice. Clear Essence has affordably priced effective skin care solutions to treat hyperpigmentation and acne scars quickly. For treatment in only 4 to 6 weeks use our Platinum Line Products. These products contain hydroquinone, the only FDA approved skin lightening ingredient, and help smooth and brighten skin for a flawless complexion.
If you have sensitive skin but still would like the same benefits as these fast acting products we suggest our Lemon Plus Vitamin C line or Sensitive Skin Care line. These products work in 6-8 weeks but still provide the same great results. Regardless of which line you choose we suggest cleansers and serums for oily skin types and lotions and creams for hydrating dry skin types. Remember this important distinction will help prevent overly drying dry skin or clogging pores on oily skin.
Love the skin you’re in, and embrace the affordable, effective treatments that Clear Essence has today to treat and repair damaged, scarred skin, so that you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to pay for expensive laser treatments, prescriptions, and over-the-counter medications. You don’t have to live with the scars on your skin, so try Clear Essence products today in-store or online!
There is a wide variety of products for the perfect skin care regimen. Many of the products contain ingredients such as vitamin C, vitamin E, Collagen, and many more. This is why it is important to know what those ingredients are and what it can potentially do for your skin. Keeping yourself well informed about these ingredients can help you make the decision of whether a product is right for you.
One of the main ingredients added to the products can be alpha hydroxy acid. But what is alpha hydroxy acid? Alpha hydroxy acids are a group of natural acids that include citric, glycolic, lactic, and malic acids that work together to shed skin cells from the epidermis. Or in English, alpha hydroxy acids are acids derived from foods such as oranges, sugar cane, and milk that help make your skin look younger. It really is that simple. But how do you know if the use of alpha hydroxy acid is the right choice for you?
Think about the benefits alpha hydroxy acid can provide for you. We have already established that alpha hydroxy acid can be used as an anti-aging agent because of the natural exfoliation it provides (Too Young for an Anti-Aging Regimen?). But what else can this natural ingredient do for your skin?
There has been research proving that alpha hydroxy acid lotions or creams can help improve the condition of acne of the skin. Alpha hydroxy acids can also be used when treating acne scars as well as improvement in skin pigmentation. Lastly, alpha hydroxy acid can help increase sunscreen absorption by opening up the skin to allow sunscreens to penetrate more deeply, giving the skin more protection. Of course, this depends on the type of skin that you have. Women with oily skin should opt for using products such as gels containing alpha hydroxy acid while women with dry skin should be on the lookout for creams containing alpha hydroxy acid.
Now that you know the benefits, carefully consider what kind of results you would like for your skin and you can decide if alpha hydroxy acid is right for you. Clear Essence Skincare offers a complete line of products dedicated to anti-aging which consists of products containing Alpha Hydroxy Acid. Clear Essence’s Anti Aging Line has been uniquely formulated for mature people of color. The combination of unique plant proteins and fruit extracts create a powerful complex of ingredients, which targets and treats specific skin care concerns. The products fade discoloration, even out skin tone, and add moisture to the skin to maintain a healthy supple texture.
As the skin ages and as it is exposed to the environment, discoloration, wrinkles, and fine lines begin to develop. The cell turnover in mature skin is much slower than in younger skin, so anti aging skin care products help the skin to stay rejuvenated. Products such as Clear Essence’s Anti-Aging Skincare Line containing Alpha Hydroxy Acids can accelerate skin cell regeneration and remove dead skin cells while keeping the top layer of skin soft and radiant.
But when is it too early to begin an anti-aging regimen?
For many African American women’s skin care routines, the steps towards anti-aging are reactionary rather than pro-active in preventing signs of aging. This does not have to be the case. Your black skin care regimen should be stopping the aging process in a few simple steps; exfoliation, moisturizing, and sun protection.
To begin with, it really comes down to a personal decision. An anti-aging regimen does not necessarily mean applying creams with magic potions to reduce the appearance of wrinkles that may already be there. Making a few changes for early prevention can be an example of an anti-aging regimen. For this case, it is never too early or too late to prevent wrinkles from forming. In fact, it is recommended that you protect your skin at the start of your twenties. The best thing you can do, no matter how young or how old, is protecting your skin from sunrays. Using a sunscreen with an SPF 15 or higher everyday can come a long way.
What about using products with anti-aging ingredients?
The most popular ingredient used for anti aging effects is alpha hydroxy acid. These ingredients bring additional benefits other than fighting against the appearance of aging. Alpha hydroxy acid is primarily used to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, two products that help reduce the appearance of aging. But it can also be used as an exfoliant that sheds off dead skin cells from the surface of the skin to allow new skin to grow. Since exfoliating is an important part of a skin care regimen, one does not have to necessarily be showing signs of wrinkles to use a product with alpha hydroxy acid. For example many Black women’s skin care regimen’s we recommend Clear Essence Complexion Soap with Alpha Hydroxy Acid. This exfoliating soap bar removes the build up of dead skin leaving the complexion smooth and radiant.
So can it be too early to use anti-aging products?
Not necessarily. It has always been recommended to use sun protection during the day and products with alpha hydroxy acid are not limited to just reducing the appearance of aging. Therefore it is not such a bad thing to use an anti – aging product with alpha hydroxy acid because it brings benefits either way. In the end, it is just a matter of personal decision.
Products aiming to fight against wrinkles have increased in popularity in the past years with many of them promising to reduce wrinkles and rejuvenate you skin. But when is it too early to begin an anti-aging regimen? For many African American women’s skin care routines, the steps towards anti-aging are reactionary rather than pro-active […]
