Natural Skin Care

It’s no secret that stress can play a large role in skin health. After all, our skin is our largest organ and an easy indicator for what’s going on within the body.

Stress is a normal psychological and physical reaction to the demands of life. A small amount of stress can be good, motivating you to perform well. But multiple challenges daily, such as sitting in traffic, meeting deadlines and paying bills, can push you beyond your ability to cope.

Your brain comes hard-wired with an alarm system for your protection. When your brain perceives a threat, it signals your body to release a burst of hormones that increase your heart rate and raise your blood pressure. During our teen years, these hormones are obviously out of control while also preceiving most new experiences as threatening which leads to our excess acne and breakouts during this time in life.

Once the threat is gone, your body is meant to return to a normal, relaxed state. Unfortunately, the nonstop complications of modern life mean that some people’s alarm systems rarely shut off.

Don’t wait until stress damages your health, relationships or quality of life. Start practicing stress management techniques today.

To monitor your stress, first identify your triggers. What makes you feel angry, tense, worried or irritable?

Some stressors, such as job pressures, relationship problems or financial concerns, are easy to identify. But daily hassles and demands, such as waiting in a long line or being late to a meeting, also contribute to your stress level.

Once you’ve identified your stress triggers, think about strategies for dealing with them. Identifying what you can control is a good starting point.

Don’t feel like you have to figure it out on your own. Seek help and support from family and friends, whether you need someone to listen to you, help with child care or give a ride to work when your car’s in the shop.

Many people benefit from practices such as deep breathing, tai chi, yoga, meditation or being in nature. Set aside time for yourself. Here are our top picks of stress relievers to help you calm the senses:

Get a massage

A massage not only helps relax the body but it also gives your mind a chance to stop thinking and enjoy the peace and quiet. By massaging the muscles, your body releases tension which when left untreated can cause pain or headaches. Using a hydrating and effective body oil or lotion to massage the skin will also give your skin a glowing complexion! Clear Essence Specialist Body Oil is a great moisturizing oil for massage use not only for its sweet scent and aroma but also because it conditions skin cells for a plump, and supple appearance.

Soak in a bubble bath

Submergence in water can reduce pain and inflammation and also calm the nervous system, reducing the levels of stress and anxiety in the body and improving your mood.We can enhance this by adding certain oils or salts to a bath. Sweet and calming aromas help to relax the mind even further. Try adding 2-3 cap fulls Clear Essence Sensitive Line Moisturizing Body Oil to running water for even more relaxation. We also love the idea of added flowers, fruits, and natural plants to your bath water. Not only does it look pretty but the fruit extracts and flowers have their own natural powers. Try lemon or citrus for skin lightening or chamomile for more aroma and calming effects.

Read a book, dance, listen to music, watch a comedy — whatever helps you relax.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will help you manage stress. Eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly and get enough sleep. Make a conscious effort to spend less time in front of a screen — television, tablet, computer and phone — and more time relaxing.

Stress won’t disappear from your life. And stress management needs to be ongoing. But by paying attention to what causes your stress and practicing ways to relax, you can counter some of the bad effects of stress, such as acne and breakouts, and increase your ability to cope with challenges.

An anti-aging regimen is something we don’t even think twice about as a kid. As children, we never really appreciated the soft and clear skin we had with until we finally hit puberty. According to Carole Aponte, MD Dermatoligist, “Children’s skin is loaded with healthy collagen and elastin fibers, the proteins that give skin its strength and flexibility.” Youthful skin also has plenty of hyaluronic acid, a substance that fills in the spaces between cells and keeps skin hydrated.

It doesn’t stop there though! Once we get past that stage we start to worry about our skin aging. There are two types of skin aging: intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic aging occurs in everyone. Aponte explains that it’s characterized by dryness and thinning of the skin as you get older. This leads to sagging, fine lines, and wrinkles. “This type of aging develops gradually and at a fairly steady rate so it’s generally not visibly evident until adulthood.

Men and Women Age at Different Rates

Men and women also age at different rates. Read up on the differences in our skin here. Extrinsic aging is caused by external factors, most notably UV radiation from over exposure to the sun. This can lead to premature aging in both men and women. This accounts for up to 90% of what we think of as “normal” skin aging.  One of the main reasons that babies’ skin looks so great is that it hasn’t had time to develop significant sun damage. “Almost all of the roughness, deeper wrinkles, discoloration, and age spots we associate with aging is caused by sun damage,” explains Aponte.

The good news is that it is preventable by lathering on sunscreen whenever you’ll be exposed to the sun’s harsh rays, that includes cloudy days as UVB rays are still present. UVA rays are equally strong year round. It means you need to be wearing a broad spectrum SFP 15 or greater every day.

Come Summer, Practicing other Sun-Safe Behaviors

Wear hats and sunglasses (your eyes can suffer from sun damage as well!). Protective clothing is very important. Also, seeking shade, and limiting time in direct sunlight between 10 A.M. and 2 P.M. when the sun’s rays are the strongest. Sunscreen is non-negotiable; there are a few other practices that will help ensure you hit adulthood with a high level of your baby-soft skin intact.

Three ways to Embrace and Maintain Youthful Complexion

If you’re a pre-teen:

There are three main ways to embrace and maintain your youthful complexion. First, you should apply sunscreen regularly to all sun-exposed skin. Secondly, eat a healthy, well-balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Healthy eating contains essential nutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants to help protect skin from environmental damage. Finally, wash your face  twice a day to remove any dirt, oil, makeup, or other chemicals that build up before they can irritate or damage your skin in the long run.

If you’re a teen:

Continue the basic skincare habits listed above and be sure to get enough sleep. We’re here to set the record straight: There really is some truth in that whole beauty rest theory. It’s during sleep that the body performs many essential maintenance and repair processes. It also clears away much of the potentially harmful chemicals that build up from daily environmental damage. Got spring break coming up? Beware of sunbathing or hitting up an indoor tanning bed. Make sure to use a sunscreen daily especially when in direct sunlight (pretty much all the time). Clear Essence My Natural Beauty Lotion with SPF 15 is a natural sun protectant formulated with natural ingredients including aloe, shea butter and glycerin. Make sure to reapply sunscreen every 1-2 hours of direct sun exposure to prevent damage to skin cells. If you’re being treated for acne, sun protection is especially important, as many acne treatments can make skin more susceptible to sunburn and irritation.

If you’re in your twenties:

Upgrade your daily moisturizer, adding a product supercharged with antioxidants and that hyaluronic acid we told you about. Before late nights in the office (or out on the town!) start taking a toll on those under eyes of yours, invest in a hydrating and caffeine-packed eye cream, gel, or roll-on serum. Clear Essence’s Platinum Line Skin Lightening Serum helps to lighten those dark under eye circles while promoting a healthy glow to the skin tone.

And if your skin is already showing signs of early aging from sun-soaking during your younger years or those all-nighters you pulled during undergrad, adding a topical antioxidant like a vitamin C or E may help reverse some early signs of damage. Check out the Clear Essence Vitamin C Line which is packed with lemon and licorice extracts for an even tone and plumped complexion.

In those with oily or acne-prone skin, an over-the-counter product that exfoliates dead skin cells such as Alpha Hydroxy Acid, or exfoliating soap bars may also help treat damage and even prevent any skin-thinning caused by intrinsic aging. Clear Essence’s Anti-Aging Line is formulated with alpha hydroxy acid ingredients to help renew damaged skin and regenerate healthy skin cells. The Complexion Soap with AHA is one of our most popular face washes as it naturally exfoliates the skin bringing out a more radiant tone. To add a quick step to your current regimen, our Toner Astringent with AHA is also a great cleanser for second step removal of any dirt or bacteria left behind from a first step wash. Regularly exfoliating the skin and removing dried, dehydrated skin cells will help to keep skin even toned and bright.

When it comes to benefiting the skin, natural ingredients can be the key. The benefits of lemon and sugar scrub are wonderful and help your skin in many ways. We know, first hand, that lemon is a natural sources of vitamin C. This vitamin helps lightening dark spots from sun exposure, age spots, and discolorations. It also helps with rough spots such as knee, elbows, hands and feet. Sugar is very beneficial as well due to being a natural exfoliator, cleaning the pores and improving overall skin texture because it removes dead skin cells.

We believe that lemon is one of the best natural sources to use on your skin for many reason as mentioned before; as a result, we have a created an entire line based on the benefits of lemon and its vitamin C ingredient called Lemon Plus Vitamin C Line. This is the reason we recommend you to use this lemon and sugar scrub; we are sure you are going to love it. The best part is that it can be used both face and body.

For this DIY lemon and sugar scrub you will simply need three things:

  • 1 Lemon
  • ½ cup of granulated sugar
  • Medium sized Tupperware or jar with lid

Simply add the lemon juice to the granulated sugar in the Tupperware or jar and mix all it together until you get a medium to thick consistency. You can always add or remove lemon and sugar depending on your preferences; there is not an exact recipe for this so play with it.

On your body, apply it on circular motions paying more attention to areas that you want to lighten for about 3 minutes. On your face, apply it gentle on circular motions for about 3 minutes as well. Make a new batch every 2 week or so to keep the ingredients as fresh as possible so that they can work effectively.

This lemon and sugar scrub will help you maintain a silky and smooth skin. Lemon tightens pores and evens out the skin tone and the sugar removes dead skin cells, cleaning the pores. We invite you to try it out since it is easy and an effective way to treat your skin.

Sometimes we make skin care mistakes that end up sabotaging our complexion. The majority of people care about their skin whether it be spending a few minutes or having a ritual routine before bed. Unfortunately, even if all we want to do is protect it, we may still do more harm than good. Everyone should have a skin care routine to protect it from daily impurities and factors we cannot control such as UV- rays because they can be very damaging for the skin. Due to the lack of ethnic skin care knowledge on how to treat specific melanin based problems, we want to educate our beloved customers about the possible mistakes they are making. As a result, they become aware and change these mistakes to become good daily habits that could make a difference when it comes to preventing damage and premature aging. Below are some the most common skin care mistakes we want you to avoid.

Skin Care Mistake #1: Exfoliating too much or not enough

Over exfoliating becomes a problem because it buffs away your top skin layer. You might think you are helping your skin get rid of the dirt or left over make-up. However, what you are actually doing is removing the barrier that protects the skin. Leaving the skin unprotected, gives the toxins of the environment and the sun the opportunity to attack the skin, resulting in premature aging. On the other hand, if you do to not exfoliate enough, you leave room for the production of clogs, blackheads, and acne. These issues result from the accumulation of dead skin cells trapped along with oil in the pores when exfoliation does not occur. To avoid both situations, we recommend you to exfoliate two or three times per week.

Skin Care Mistakes #2: Diet and skincare go hand in hand

If you want to have a healthy and glowing skin, diet needs to be taken into consideration. The food you eat can have a significant impact on your skin. We recommend our loving customers to include more fruits, vegetables, and good fats such as avocado, nuts, and fish. As well as try to avoid sugars, salt, and processed foods that only damage the skin and makes you gain a few more pounds. Yes, we understand that some days you might crave something in the bad category food, and it is okay if you cheat once in a while. Nonetheless, you must remember it is all about balance.

Skin Care Mistake #3: Applying to many products

Pampering your skin with all kinds of different products to either make it look better or treat different skin problems can lead to overwhelming the skin. It can cause the opposite effect you are trying to accomplish. If you want to achieve a better skin or treat any issues, we recommend you to alternate products and not mixing them all together.

Skin Care Mistake #4: Not using products formulated for your skin type

When using products that are not suited for your skin type, you will never see the results you want. Every skin type has special needs that must be taken care of. It is important that you do your research and discover what skin type and product you need for accurate results.

Last but not least.

Skin Care Mistake #5: Not wearing enough sunscreen

One major reason premature aging occurs is due to increase exposure to sun light and the UV rays. People often believe they are not exposing themselves sunlight when in reality they are. This is called incidental exposure—driving in the car, sitting near windows, or walking outside even if it’s cloudy. To prevent early aging, you must apply sun protection all year round. Clear Essence Cosmetics supplies many SPF 15 products to help protect your skin while treating discolorations and dark spots. Clear Essence My Natural Beauty Skin Tone Lotion with SPF 15 has added SPF 15 to prevent future discolorations and damage from harsh elements and the sun’s UV rays. This is the perfect daily moisturizer to keep your skin silky, smooth, and even-toned.

There you are, some of the most common skin care mistakes people make, so please do your research, become aware, and informed about the unique need your skin has and change those bad habits into healthy ones. With the year ending, we all begin to think about the common New Year Resolutions but let’s face it, it is difficult to follow through because we are not consistent or life simply gets in the way. You set goals that might be a little too unrealistic and become forgotten as the year moves forward. Clear Essence cares about you and wants you to achieve those resolutions because we believe everything is possible with dedication, effort and patience, so let’s change the way New Year Resolutions are set by following these easy steps.

Make realistic and attainable goals.

Make a few goals that you believe you can achieve by putting a little effort and energy every week or every two weeks depending on the resolutions. For instance, taking good care of your skin might be on the list, however, that resolution alone is vague. Instead, be more specific and change it to something such as washing your face every single day before bed or wearing SPF every day. Single and easy steps that will help you reach the overall goal. Also, to be aligned with caring about your skin, you could include exercising and eating more fruits and vegetables during the week. All these specific and reachable goals will help you get to the bigger picture or resolution that you always wanted (having a beautiful and radiant skin).

Write your resolutions down

This step is very important because it reminds you the reason behind the resolution itself. Why do you want to take care of your skin? While the answers could vary and become endless, depending on your needs and wants, what it is important is to know why you want to achieve it. Furthermore, be sure to write your resolutions in present tense; it will reaffirm they will come true. Read your resolutions every single day, and do it at loud so you can hear them. This will also serve as a remainder to yourself as to why you want to attain those resolutions in first place.

Share them with family and friends

It is key to keep motivated during the entire process and sometimes that becomes impossible. Sharing your resolutions with the people you love can help a lot. They will serve as support when you think you are not capable of following through. There is nothing wrong with asking for help, so do yourself a favor and ask your family and friend to support you through this journey. Also, keep your resolutions and a picture of them if possible where you and your loved ones can see it, it will be a motivation to continue and could be used to check the progress you are making.

Reward yourself and have fun

Last but not least, be sure to reward yourself once progress has been made because it will help keeping you motivated throughout the year. Please be creative and have fun with your goals; there is no need to make the journey of your resolutions a torture. Remember the reason behind resolutions is to become better, healthier, and happier, so enjoy the process it will not last forever!

So now that we have shared some tips with you, our loved customers and anyone out there who wants to achieve their resolutions, go ahead and put them into practice right now don’t wait Clear Essence believes in you.

Most of us have have probably heard or used the Clear Essence Babyexpression, “Soft as a babies bottom.”

It’s true fresh baby skin can be nice and soft, but there are times when their skin might have a rash or not be as smooth which can cause irritation and discomfort for your little one. Some possible reasons for this are: eczema, baby acne, diaper rashes, and the weather. Here’s some tips on keeping your baby’s skin soft including home remedies and the Clear Essence products that can help!

Eczema

According to Parents Magazine, “Eczema is an inherited form of skin sensitivity that causes extremely dry skin.” Babies with eczema tend to have red tiny bumps all over their body. Since it is extremely dry skin, it will become itchy; so it is important to cut your babies nails so they can’t scratch at it. Also, make sure they get their baths and they are using a gentle cleanser, but try not to keep them in for long because it may irritate their skin more and cause it to become dryer.

Baby Acne

Baby acne appears as little zits that are found on the face or body. It can occur during the first few weeks after birth, and is caused by hormones that are still lingering in their blood streams. Baby acne usually clears up on its own, but it should be washed gently. Also, do not apply any oil or lotion on the face or affected areas.

Diaper Rash

Diaper rashes are normal, however with new advances in diapers and material used, they are luckily becoming less common. Rashes can begin when waste is left on the skin too long. It can also be caused by changing your baby’s diet. To prevent this it is important to change their diapers more often and instead of using drying wipes that can irritate their skin more, use cotton squares like toilet paper or tissues. Before putting the diaper on use petroleum jelly on the rash to protect the rash from additional irritation.

Dry Skin

Just like weather can cause our adult skin to dry out, it can do the same to babies’ skin. However, babies’ skin is obviously more sensitive then ours.  Make sure to protect their skin by using sunscreen and clothing. Hats are also very important in the sun because since less hair has grown in, they are more prone to get a sunburn on the head. During the winter it is important that they are wearing lotion especially if you live in very dry places.

A product line that can help with dry and chapped skin is the Clear Essence Baby Line. Each product is formulated with unique herbal blends to soothe and comfort babies’ delicate skin. The Baby lotion with Shea & Cocoa Butter helps with relieving dry, itchy, and irritated skin, as well as maintaining skin’s natural moisture balance. Remember if any of these symptoms, from above, worsen please contact your pediatrician.

Winter Landscape

Dry Skin and chapped lips are some of the things we have in store for us once winter arrives.

Based in Southern California, Clear Essence Cosmetics USA, Inc. headquarters enjoys some of the best weather year round. Bracing for winter here means throwing on a light sweater! However, for those areas with more than one season, your skin may need some help combating the elements. During winter Humid rain dropsthe air becomes much dryer, winds increase, and there’s regular chances of rain, snow, etc. Think of what that does to our skin. You may start to experience increased dryness in your skin during this time of the year. The weather can cause our skin to become so dry that it cracks and becomes sore. Some of the places on our bodies that seem to dry out the most are elbows, knees and knuckles. However, there are ways to prevent, avoid, and cure dry skin and a lot of the solutions are very simple and easy to do.

The Why and How?

Before talking about how to solve these issues for good, let’s answer the question: How does the weather affect my skin? Well, in harsh dry weather water is pulled out of the skin and into the dehumidified wind. Rapidly changing temperatures can also irritate the skin such as leaving the warm house to go out into the snow. Try avoiding taking hot showers during the winter as it dries the skin. And although a heater keeps you toasty it can dry the air in your room which again translates to dry skin.

As mentioned, the areas you may find drier than others are your elbows, knees, and knuckles. This is because the skin is always bending and stretching and needs special care. When it comes to knuckles, our skin can be very sensitive to many household products. Ingredients in cleaning supplies can remove our natural oils from our skin. If you have dry or cracked skin on your hands it is important to use gloves when cleaning around the house to not cause further harm to the healing wounds. Also, the material of sweaters and long sleeve shirts can rub against the elbow causing irritation to already dry skin. Make sure to moisturize completely before putting on clothing to prevent chafing.

Tips and Tricks

So what are some ways you can prevent these horrors caused when winter comes around? You can stay hydrated, drink water regularly. Change your face wash to something that is mild and gentle on your skin. You want something that can seal in moisture. You can switch your moisturizer from light too thick because summer is over and your skin will need extra emollients. And in order to make sure your skin is getting the moisture it needs, you can purchase a humidifier so thatOlive Oil Creme you can still use your heater without over drying your room.

What is Lactic Acid?

Fermented or sour milk contains a special chemical compound called Lactic Acid (LA). It is the gentler cousin to the alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) exfoliant. Both help improve our skin’s texture for soft and blemish free skin.Milk Bath (Lactic Acid)

The Egyptian Queen Cleopatra was one of the first to use this skin care holy grail ingredient. She would bathe in fermented milk to keep her beautiful skin looking and feeling rejuvenated.

According to WebMD.com,  LA is mainly produced by red blood cells and muscles inside of the human body. Our bodies generate this chemical compound when we are exercising for long periods of time. It serves as the fuel reserve to help prolong the work out and delay muscle fatigue.

How does it work?

Milk is a natural lactic acid

Apart from its internal function, lactic acid works as an exfoliant when used externally on the skin. It gently strips off the dead cells on our skin, revealing the soft new skin beneath. It promotes collagen growth to help slow down the skin’s aging process and properly moisturizes for soft hydrated skin.

Of course, the application of any lactic acid treatment should be in moderation according to one’s skin sensitivity because too much of it can cause irritation. Your skin should see minimal sun exposure during a lactic acid regimen as fresh new skin is more vulnerable to UV rays.

When looking for dark skin care products that exfoliate, moisturize and help cell and collagen regrowth for younger looking skin, it is important to choose products with AHA because AHA contains lactic acid properties that do just that.

Where can I get it?

Clear Essence Cosmetics has many products with lactic acid such as all the products in the Anti-Aging Line, the Solutions for Men Skin Renewal Booster After Shave, the Lemon Plus Vitamin C Multi-Active Toner, the Platinum Line Complexion Cleansing Bar and more.

By using products that contain lactic acid properties African American skin care can be complete and highly effective. It just takes some knowledge on the specific properties to help achieve what your skin needs to be at its full potential.
